AFW and Co-op Fair Trade events in Bridge of Don – full programme.

Aberdeen for a Fairer (AFW), in partnership with Bridge of Don Academy who are supporting our work through their Fairtrade community project, currently receives funds from Members’ shopping at Scotstown Co-op to organise this autumn a series of events promoting Fairtrade in the Bridge of Don. We receive 1% of the amount spent on Co-op ‘own brand’ products by those Members who have gone onto their Membership account online and nominated our cause from the three successful causes.

PROGRAMME

  • Friday 11th October, 7.00 pm – 9.00 pm

A FREE Wine Tasting event in the Bridge of Don, at Wm Gilchrist Funeralcare, 20 Ellon Rd, Bridge of Don AB23 8BX.

Our thanks go to Wm Gilchrist Co-op Funeralcare who are providing the venue and Scotstown Co-op who are providing the Fairtrade wine and refreshments.

Workshop on Fairtrade at Royal British Legion Scotland, Balgownie Road, AB23 8JN

What is Fairtrade? Why do we need Fairtrade? What are the issues and how can we support and promote it? Where does Fairtrade sit in the Global Goals for Sustainable Development?

Charlie Barrow and Barbara Holligan from AFW, with support from Bridge of Don Academy pupils, lead an open–to–all workshop including activities such as tastings, games and media you can share with others.

Fairtrade cooking demonstration – #EatYourWayToGlobalFinancialJustice

Home Economics classroom, Bridge of Don Academy

Barbara Holligan of AFW will demonstrate dishes with Christmas in mind, using Fairtrade ingredients.

This is a taste and try session, and you can find out where to source Fairtrade ingredients and recipes for your own culinary contributions to global economic security.

As their contribution to Fairtrade several senior pupils from Bridge of Don Academy will be visiting the Primary Schools in the Bridge of Don area togive peer support encourage baking with Fairtrade ingredients for the competition on 29th February.

Final Grand Finale Event

Details to be announced later, but it will probably be an evening event at BoDA, and include a Fairtrade Quiz, adjudication and prizes for the best bakes brought by Primary School children, videos on Fairtrade.
